Everyone knows our passion for books and also how we encourage cultural activities in our area. That is why we recommend to all those who visit us this weekend to come to this magnificent presentation in the city of Borja (just 5 minutes from the castle).
It is a publication about one of the most important military and political figures in the history of Spain “The Great Captain” and will be on June 10, at eight o’clock in the evening, will take place at the Casa de Aguilar the presentation of the work “The Great Captain. The war according to his enemies”, with the presence of its author Mr. Hugo Vázquez Bravo.
At the end, as usual, the President of the Center will offer a wine to the attendees in which it is possible that there will be Asturian products, specifically brought for the occasion.
Gonzalo Fernández de Córdoba was a nobleman and military man of the late 15th and early 16th centuries. He received the nickname “Great Captain” for his military and diplomatic successes in the service of the Catholic Monarchs in the conquest of Granada and the War of Naples. He is credited with technical and tactical innovations with which he modernized an agile army capable of defeating the armored soldiers of the Middle Ages. His new conception of infantry sowed the seeds for the formation of the Tercios de Flandes, the elite military units of the Spanish monarchy during the 16th and 17th centuries.

If last March we dedicated a tasting tribute to flamenco, today we are going with a tasting in the purest rock style, where the importance of rock music in Aragon and the lands of Moncayo will be highlighted.

On June 10 we will have a rock tasting in Bulbuente with Cuti Vericad and organized by the Ruta de la Garnacha. It will be a tasting experience in all its senses, where two great powers will come together; the wine of the land, from the hand of our sommelier David Sanmartín and his team, and rock, in this case with our special guest, Cuti Vericad. A veteran musician from Aragon who, at the age of 17, founded the rockabilly combo Los Dynamos in Zaragoza, with whom he recorded three albums during the 90s.
During almost three decades of career, Cuti has collaborated in countless projects parallel to his career as a composer and singer. He has signed the musical libretto of more than a dozen theatrical shows of different companies. He has composed music for film and television. He has led projects such as Hillbilly Mongows dedicated to country and bluegrass music with which he recorded two albums. Or his alter ego Doctor Cuti, with whom he practices on the piano “nuevaorleanos” sounds in the style of Professor Longhair or Doctor John, with whom in 2014 he released the album “El sabroso gumbo del Doctor Cuti”. He is also singer and guitarist of the rockabilly trio Los Coringas with whom he has released two albums. He has been keyboardist of Loquillo y Trogloditas, Rulo y La Contrabanda, regular collaborator of Los Rebeldes, keyboardist of Distrito 14, Connie Corleone, Los Berzas, Los Gandules or Il Cuesco, to name a few.
He has also worked as a producer for Aragonese bands such as Despierta McFly, Mil Demonios or Connie Corleone, as well as a studio musician in multiple recordings. In his different projects he has shared the stage with The Rolling Stones, The Who, Nick Lowe, Andrés Calamaro, Linda Gail Lewis or Gene Vincent’s Blue Caps among others.
With Cuti and David Sanmartin, we will discover the evolution of rock in our lands as well as its wines as ambassadors of the region and its wine route: La Ruta de la Garnacha. Yes, we will learn about wines and also about rock; and all this in a playful way, feeling the music and, why not, even dancing to it.
CATANDO ROCK will be on June 10, 2023 (Saturday) at 20:00 hrs outside the municipal hostel. With a price in advance sale: 25.- euros (until May 31, inclusive). And 30.- euros (from June 1). Limited capacity. Reservations must be made in advance at the following link: Once the place is confirmed, an account number will be provided to proceed with the payment.

The Calendar of Empty Spain recognizes 12 Spanish municipalities that have suffered the ravages of fire in the past year.
The Driver Group is a company that integrates “Driver. Neumáticos y Servicios” and “Autia. Integral Services”, with a wide network of workshops and establishments throughout Spain. For the last four years, it has been publishing a calendar which, on this occasion, has been dedicated to “Empty Spain”, choosing Bulbuente to illustrate its cover.
The localities chosen for each of the months correspond to those that have recently suffered forest fires in their municipalities and that, in some cases, destroyed buildings in their urban centers. Specifically, the municipalities represented are Mahíde (Zamora); Alixo (Orense); Ladrillar (Cáceres); Fageca (Alicante); Júzcar (Málaga); Riba de Saelices (Guadalajara); Andilla (Valencia); Famorca (Alicante); Porto de Sanabria (Zamora); Santa María de Miralles (Barcelona); and Ízbor (Granada), as well as Bulbuente.

Bulbuente appears on the cover, in the introduction and in the month of September, with a text in which it is pointed out that “it is a village halfway between Borja and Tarazona, at the foot of the Moncayo Natural Park. Surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and almond trees, it encourages you to walk along the banks of the river Huecha, discovering magical places. On August 13, 2022 a fire started on the slopes of the Moncayo forced to evacuate it. Thanks to the extinguishing work of the displaced means, including a group of volunteers, the fire did not enter the village. The houses were saved, but the forest and orchard areas were not so lucky”.
The places to visit are also indicated: La Mora Encantada, the Sillón del Obispo, the Fuennueva, the Fuente de los Veinte Caños, the parish church and the Castle-Palace of the abbots of Veruela. For those who do not know, the so-called “Sillón del Obispo” corresponds to what others know as “sacrificial stone” at the height of the Fuennueva.

In February we enjoyed the spectacular snowy Moncayo, this year the snow has been late in arriving, but the Iberian colossus already looks in all its splendor. This photo is taken from our gardens, in which we are currently working. Last year and the year before we did the first planting of trees and soon we will do the next and last one.
In the picture you can see that the line of cypress trees facing north has already taken shape and exceeds three meters in height. The garden will be a luxury complement to enjoy the stays in the castle, we hope you like it.
